Hey folks, welcome back to the Keep Growing Podcast, brought to you by Bob’s Market and Greenhouses in Mason, West Virginia. I’m your host, John Morgan, coming to you from the Mid-Ohio Valley. This week we’re talking about the garden tasks for June 13th through June 19th, 2026. Summer is really starting to settle in, and our plants are loving the longer days and warmer nights.
Before we jump in, a quick note: Due to a change in my recording schedule, these next few episodes won’t include a local weather forecast. But you can check the current conditions and extended forecast anytime by heading over to our website at bobsmarket.com. Just click under the “More” section and you’ll find the Weather Center. We’re planning to bring the forecasts back in July, along with some remote episodes from Cultivate26 in Columbus, Ohio. So stay tuned for that!
Let’s get into this week’s garden to-dos.
First up: Watering efficiency. As temperatures climb, it’s a great time to set up drip irrigation or soaker hoses in your vegetable beds and flower gardens. These systems deliver water right to the root zone, which means less evaporation, fewer weeds, and healthier plants overall. If you haven’t installed them yet, now’s the perfect window—before the real heat of summer kicks in. A little upfront work now will save you a lot of time and water later.
Monday, June 15th is New Moon—a fantastic day for planting seeds and transplants! This is your cue to sow another round of beans and cucumbers. Succession planting keeps the harvest coming all season long. Whether you’re tucking in a few more bush beans or starting some vining cucumbers, the New Moon energy is on your side this week.
While you’re out there, take a few minutes to train your vining crops onto sturdy trellises or supports. Cucumbers, pole beans, and even some indeterminate tomatoes will thank you for the vertical space—it improves air circulation and makes harvesting much easier. And while you’re tending the tomatoes, give the tops a pinch. This encourages bushier growth and more fruiting stems. It’s a simple trick that pays off big in the weeks ahead.
Don’t forget to head out to your local Bob’s Market for our annual Customer Appreciation Sale. This is the time of year when the heat of summer moves in and we price inventory to move it out and make room. We’ve got late summer and then fall favorites waiting in the wings, and in the next few weeks poinsettia cuttings will start arriving at our production facility right here in Mason, WV. We’re always a few seasons ahead at Bob’s HQ, so come see what’s fresh and grab some great deals while you’re at it.
For full details on the sale, plus show notes from today’s episode and information about our newly launched VIP Club, visit bobsmarket.com. The VIP Club is a great way to stay in the loop with text notifications for sales, events, frost advisories, and more—scout’s honor, no spam.
That’s it for this week, friends. Keep those gardens growing strong, stay hydrated out there, and we’ll catch you next time on the Keep Growing Podcast. Thanks for listening!
