[Intro Music fades in]

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Keep Growing Podcast — your weekly guide to gardening in the Mid-Ohio Valley. I’m your host, John Morgan, coming to you from Bob’s Market.

We’re heading into the Memorial Day weekend, and things are really well … a bit damp in the garden right now. Let’s jump right in.

Weather Outlook

First, a quick look at the weather for the next seven days. The chance for showers and thunderstorms will stick around as we start the new work week, so you might want to hold off on any major planting until things dry out a bit.

We should see some drying possible later in the week, with temperatures climbing back to near or above normal starting Saturday. Overall, it’ll feel like real gardening weather will return mid-week.  By then, you might need a tractor to mow your lawn, but don’t get discouraged, this rain has been much needed. We’ve been flirting on the edge of a drought all spring.

Lunar Gardening + This Week’s Tasks

Saturday, May 23rd, we hit the First Quarter Moon. That’s a great window for planting or harvesting aboveground crops — things like beans, peas, tomatoes, peppers, squash, and leafy greens. If you’ve been waiting for the right sign, this is it.

A couple of important “get it done now” tasks:

  • Stake your tomatoes and set up trellises this week if you haven’t already. Trust me — things are about to get wild out there. Get your supports in early while the plants are still manageable. You’ll thank yourself in July and August.

  • It’s a perfect time to plant jack-o’-lantern pumpkins. They need a solid 90–120 days to mature, so getting them in now gives you plenty of time for those big, carving-size pumpkins by fall.

  • And don’t forget to trellis your cucumbers. Keeping them off the ground saves space, improves air flow, and helps prevent disease. Your future cucumber sandwiches will appreciate it.

Memorial Day Weekend Sale at Bob’s Market

Alright, let’s talk about something fun. This weekend at Bob’s Market we’re running a Buy One, Get One Free sale on our 10-inch diameter SunPatiens hanging baskets.

These are the cousins of New Guinea Impatiens — but with a big difference. While regular New Guineas like to stay in the shade on your porch, SunPatiens can handle full sun and still perform like champs. They’re tough, colorful, and perfect for bright spots in your landscape.

Normally priced at $20.99 each, this BOGO deal means you can really let your imagination run wild.

As a great fertilizer pairing, I also recommend Jack’s Classic All Purpose Water Soluble Fertilizer — it keeps them blooming strong all season long.

The sale runs through Monday, May 25th, so make sure to stop by this weekend.

Closing

That’s it for this week on the Keep Growing Podcast.

For full show notes, more details on the SunPatiens BOGO sale, and everything else, head over to bobsmarket.com.

While you’re there, check out our newly launched VIP Club. It’s basically our old mailing list, but better — now with text notifications if you want to opt in. I personally manage it, and I hate spam just as much as you do. Scout’s honor — we’ll only text you for important stuff: big sales, special events, frost advisories, and freeze warnings so you can protect your plants.

Thanks so much for listening. Get out there, enjoy this beautiful time in the garden, and I’ll talk to you next week.

Keep growing!
